Faith Caucus

What is the Faith Caucus?

All faith traditions challenge us to engage in healing, to act with justice, and to treat one another with compassion. But our health care delivery system distributes services unjustly, rations care inequitably, and offers compassion only to those who can afford it.

The Faith Caucus, including Christian, Jewish, Muslim and other traditions, pulls from across the state of Illinois to assert the moral imperative of health care for all. We recognize that equal access to health care is not only a socio-economic issue, but also a moral issue whose impact is felt strongly within our communities and congregations.

Together the Faith Caucus has been bringing the moral crisis of health care disparity to policymakers through educational awareness events, thoughtful discussion, and prayer.

The time is NOW! Health care reform is moving quickly:

Faith voices are more important than ever!

Health care reform is going to happen this year. What that reform looks like will depend on who has the ear of our elected leaders. If we want a health care system that reflects our faith-inspired values, it will be up to us to communicate those values.

Let’s overwhelm the Capitol Switchboard with calls that promote compassion, the common good, shared responsibility, and concern for those who are vulnerable and faithful stewardship of our abundant healthcare resources!

This is a key moment in the history of the health care justice movement.

Congressional leaders have set August 1 as the deadline to have major health care reform legislation passed out of both houses. We now have a window of opportunity to achieve health care justice!

But we need you. Faith leaders have led many social movements throughout the history of our nation, and we need the leadership of faith communities now on the important issue of health care reform. It is absolutely vital that the moral imperative be in front of this movement.
