Campaign for Better Health Care

What is the Health Care Justice Campaign?

The Health Care Justice Campaign is a project of the Campaign for Better Health Care, working in cooperation with over a hundred groups and individuals statewide.

Our goal is to make sure the General Assembly fully implements the Health Care Justice Act by enacting a plan that follows the principles of affordability and accessibility.

Why is the Health Care Justice Campaign Necessary?

The U.S. spends the most on health care in the world, yet we are ranked 37th in overall performance of our health care system.

-World Health Organization, 2000 Report

Our health care system is failing.

There are over 45 million uninsured Americans and over 1.4 million uninsured Illinoisans.

We must act now.

Our health care system costs too much and covers too little. Health care injustice unequally affects people of color, rural citizens, young adults and middle class working adults. The health care crisis is spiraling out of control due to rising health care costs and increased layoffs. Health care for all is a moral imperative, a medical imperative and an economic imperative.

We Need Health Care Justice in Illinois.

To win affordable, accessible, quality health care for the people of Illinois, the Health Care Justice Campaign takes advantage of the broadest and most politically savvy coalition ever organized around health care reform. Given the current political environment in Illinois, a strong, multi-faceted grassroots effort must be developed and sustained until our goal is achieved. Success in Illinois, a major Midwestern industrial state which closely resembles the socioeconomic makeup of the United States, will potentially spur other states to embark on their own campaigns. Most importantly, victory in Illinois will help to reposition health care as a key issue nationally.
